We report a Fe K x-ray emission spectroscopy study of local magnetic moments in various iron-based superconductors in their paramagnetic phases. Local magnetic moments are found in all samples studied: PrFeAsO, BaFe,Co 2 As 2, LiFeAs, Fe 1x Te,Se, and A 2 Fe 4 Se 5 where A=K, Rb, and Cs. The moment size is independent of temperature or. We use time-of-flight TOF inelastic neutron scattering INS spectroscopy to investigate the doping dependence of magnetic excitations across the phase diagram of NaFe1-xCoxAs with x = 0, 0.0175, 0.0215, 0.05, and 0.11. The effect of electron-doping by partially substituting Fe by Co is to form resonances that couple with superconductivity, broaden and suppress low energy E 80 meV spin. Here we report the interplay of magnetic and structural transitions in a parent compound of iron-based superconductor BaFe2As2 at high pressures, in which magnetic ordering precedes the structural transition at high pressures. Our results can be understood in terms of spin fluctuations in the emerging nematic phase before long-range magnetic order.
